That time when Raven actually said what most of us want to say to a teacher who picks you for the answer when you clearly don’t know it, for usually no other reason than to embarrass you and make you look stupid. One of the main things I hate and always will hate about school.
no. trying to embarrass you or make you look stupid is not why teachers call on you when you don’t raise your hand. They do that because they have to get (participation) grades from all students in class and if they don’t participate willingly, they have to be called on. And obviously a teacher can’t do that with 30 students simultaneously; the goal is to focus on like 3-5 students over like a 2 week period or so during which the teacher calls on those students more frequently and may not call on you even if you raise your hand and somebody else doesn’t. However, teachers DO notice when you raise your hand frequently, especially if you usually don’t and/or it’s on a certain topic and give you a good grade anyway. As for the situation in the gif set: it is very likely that the teacher saw that Raven had her hand up during previous questions and looked like she was sure her answer was right, so the teacher thinks that maybe now Raven knows the answer, too, but isn’t sure of it? Why not give her a chance to voice her answer, maybe she’ll gain some confidence in her knowledge if the thing she wasn’t sure about ended up being right?!
Not all things teachers do are done out of malice. We seriously don’t get anything positive out of being mean to students - if we give you a bad grade or embarrass you in front of the class the only thing we get out of it is possibly having to teach you for another year or being hated by the whole class
